Over time, everyone's skin takes a beating from the sun, aging, and a host of environmental factors. Microdermabrasion is the term applied to a treatment in which the rough surface layer of the skin is gently buffed away to reveal the fresh skin beneath. This is a totally painless skin-freshening technique and in the process, fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation can be reduced, leaving you with a smoother, fresher complexion.

Older systems blasted your skin with abrasive particles. It worked, but left particles behind and could cause damage. The next version replaced abrasive particles with an abrasive diamond particle tip. This was an improvement but it was still possible to cause damage and in addition, keratin in the skin could build up on the tip making it less effective as the treatment proceeded. A third concern was the difficulty of controlling the vacuum pressure if the tip was left in one place on the skin for any length of time.
